Network Instruments® Achieves 1,000th Healthcare Customer Milestone

Retrospective network analysis solutions continue to fuel sales expansion

January 22, 2007 – Minneapolis, MN – Network Instruments, a leading provider of innovative analysis solutions for in-depth network intelligence and continuous availability, today announced that 1,000 healthcare organizations now use the company’s network analysis appliances and software. This surge in company growth and sales within the healthcare sector has been largely fueled by the introduction of the GigaStor™ appliance, which provides a new method of efficiently solving network problems and assists organizations with performing network forensics and maintaining compliance.

One critical issue hospitals commonly face is resolving intermittent network slowdowns or erratic issues with network and application performance. With little detail and no way to easily replicate the problem, these issues can be nearly impossible to troubleshoot. Newly emerging retrospective network analysis solutions, like the GigaStor, are invaluable for capturing terabytes worth of network communications and providing a window into the past for troubleshooting sporadic network performance.

Hospitals and health insurance companies use retrospective analysis appliances to store days, weeks, and even months worth of packet-level data for comprehensive historical analysis. Using GigaStor’s unique time-based navigator, IT staffs quickly sort through massive amounts of traffic to find the policy violation or anomalous traffic. In addition to solving critical application problems and quickly identifying the source of elusive issues on the network, GigaStor can reassemble packet streams to recreate e-mails sent and received, web pages visited, IM sessions, and VoIP calls. Historical analysis and reconstructing data streams have been important for compliance enforcement efforts by providing proof of malicious activities or policy violations that have transpired.

“Network Instruments plays a critical role in keeping our network and applications running at peak performance every day,” said Thomas Sluder, manager of network services AnMed Health Medical Center. “With the complete visibility Network Instruments’ solutions give us to everything occurring on our network, we can spot a problem and troubleshoot before it impacts network performance.  With so many healthcare applications dependent upon the network to function, having it go down is not an option.”

Since 1994, Network Instruments has helped medical clinics and hospitals manage network performance by quickly diagnosing and resolving network issues before they impact overall performance. Healthcare agencies need technology 24x7. Being without access to specific network applications for even a short period of time can adversely impact a hospital’s ability to adequately care for a patient during a life-and-death situation. As hospitals have implemented VoIP and wireless networks, Network Instruments’ products have been critical for actively managing wireless network performance, ensuring VoIP quality, and preventing dropped network communications. These products also ensure that network users always have the ability to access patient health records across the network.

“Network Instruments gives our healthcare clients visibility they couldn’t get from another network analysis vendor,” said Mike Motta, vice president of Motta Network Experts, a network and security services provider. “Often users will tell the network administrator about an issue with performance after the fact. To troubleshoot this without the GigaStor meant spending hours trying to recreate the issue, and only after we successfully duplicate the error can we begin to resolve the problem. GigaStor has been a huge time saver for many of our customers.”
