All Network Instruments Observer® products can conduct WLAN monitoring. Each analyzer or probe, when equipped with a wireless interface card, senses wireless activity and displays metrics to Observer consoles located anywhere on the network for deep packet analysis. Observer is an ideal analyzer to load on a laptop for mobile monitoring power.
While you conduct WLAN monitoring, Network Instruments probes allow you to simultaneously monitor the wired side of the network. Wireless-only analyzers cannot decode beyond the MAC layer since the header is encrypted with most security configurations. With Observer, you have the option to view the entire payload on the wired side.
