Installing the CNet PCMCIA adapter with the Network Instruments Drivers
Instructions for installing the CNet PCMCIA adapter depend on the operating system you are installing on. Separate instructions follow for Windows 95 Version A, Windows 95 Version b, and Windows NT 4.x.
One comment for all operating systems: The CNet PCMCIA adapter is NE2000 compatible, and all procedures here are ways of getting the Network Instruments NE2000 driver functioning with the PCMCIA adapter.
Windows 95 Version A:
Please do not use CNet’s drivers on this operating system. CNet’s drivers for this version of Windows are NDIS 2.x and will not work with Observer.
1. Place the CNet adapter in your laptop, start the PC, and when prompted with the “New hardware found” dialog, choose the “Select from a list of alternate drivers” choice. Select “Network Adapter” and then from the “Select Driver” dialog choose the “Novell/Anthem NE2000 Compatible” driver. Then let Windows 95 complete the installation.
2. Make sure you now have network connectivity (i.e. ping a host, or log into a server, etc.).
3. Go into your \Windows\System directory and rename the existing NE2000.SYS driver to NE2000.old. Next copy the Network Instruments NE2000.SYS driver from the \Observer\Dirvers\NE2000 directory to the \Windows\System directory. Reboot, and you should be up and running, collecting full error information.
Windows 95 Version B:
1. Install the CNet PCMCIA adapter using CNet’s drivers, following the instructions that came with the CNet adapter. This will install a driver called “E200P.SYS” in the \Windows\System directory - the “E200P.SYS” is a renamed NE2000 driver.
2. Go into your \Windows\System directory and rename the existing E200P.SYS driver to E200P.old. Next copy the Network Instruments NE2000.SYS driver from the \Observer\Dirvers\NE2000 directory to the \Windows\System directory. Rename the Network Instruments NE2000.SYS driver to E200P.SYS. Reboot, and you should be up and running, collecting full error information.
Windows NT 4.x
Instructions for Windows NT 4.x are identical to that of Windows 95 version B, except the E200P.SYS driver is kept in the \Winnt\System\Drivers directory. |
