Error Copying File registry.dll, NiHash.dll, and NiResolve.dll during upgrade or reinstall
This error occurs if Observer has been run during the current Windows session prior to your installation of Observer. Even though you have closed Observer, Windows has not released these files and they are still in use by the operating system. Running uninstall prior to installing Observer after receiving this error will not fix the problem. To resolve this problem reboot the computer system and then re-run the installation.
This error may also occur if your Web Server inside of Observer is running as a web service. If this is the case then you will need to either:
1 - Start Observer and turn off the option for running the Web Server as a service. (From Observer select OPTIONS -> WEB REPORTING CONFIGURATION -> WEB SERVER OPTIONS -> Uncheck the box RUN WEB SERVER AS SERVICE)
or
2 - If Step one cannot be done then you must disable the Web Service through START -> SETTINGS -> CONTROL PANEL -> SERVICE (for NT 4.0) or ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS then SERVICES (XP or 2000). From here locate the NETWORK INSTRUMENTS WEB SERVER and double click on it. Set its startup status to be DISABLED and then reboot the machine.
This should allow you to perform a clean install of Observer. You can then setup your Web Server to run as a service again. |
