Title: Installing the Network Instruments Network Card Driver on Windows XP
Installing the Network Instruments Network Card Driver on Windows XP
The default driver that is installed by Windows XP (though it functions properly) does not offer the Error Tracking drivers that are needed for Network Errors By Station. If you try to install the Windows 2000 drivers provided with Observer you are presented with an error messages saying that there are no "better drivers" found.
To install the Network Instruments Network Card Drivers do the following:
1. Click on Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Click on Performance and Maintenance
4. Click on System
5. Click on the Hardware Tab
6. Select Device Manager
7. Click on the + sign beside Network Adapters
8. Right click on the Intel 21143 Network Card and select Uninstall
9. Close the Device Manager and Control Panel
10. Go to a DOS prompt
11. Change to the C:\WINNT\INF Directory (or to the INF directory below your Windows XP
root)
12. Type DEL NET21X4.*
13. Press Enter
14. Type EXIT and press Enter
15. Reboot
16. Upon the reboot you will be prompted to provide drivers for the Ethernet Adapter. Point
the hardware wizard to:
C:\Observer Files\Drivers\Intel21143\Win2000
Follow the rest of the on screen instructions. You will need to reboot even if you are not prompted too in order for the drivers to be fully installed. |
