Product: Observer 9.x
Date: 3-9-04
Title: No Adapters Available

Upon starting Observer, I do not see any available adapters listed in the "Select Network Adapter" list.

1.  Cancel out of the "select network adapter" dialog and make sure Observer/Probe
is not running and you are logged in with administrator privileges.

2.  From the Windows Start menu, choose Control Panel->Network and Dialup
     Connections
, right click on any of the Local Area Connections and choose
     Properties
.

3.  Look at the list of installed components to verify that the VMONI Protocol Analyzer
is listed. If not, go directly to step 4. If the VMONI driver is listed, uninstall it by
choosing VMONI Protocol Analyzer and clicking the Uninstall button. After the
VMONI driver has been removed you must restart the PC.

4.  From the Local Area Connection Properties (See step 2), choose Install->Protocol->Add->Network Instruments – VMONI Protocol Analyzer and click OK.

If the VMONI driver is not listed, select Have Disk, then browse to the copy of the VMONI.SYS file located in the Observer directory on your hard drive *See Note Below for OS Specific paths*. Click OK. The VMONI Protocol Analyzer will now be available to install. Restart the computer after you have completed installing the driver.

*NOTE FOR O/S SPECIFIC PATHS*

The path for the VMONI driver will differ depending on which version of O/S you are running.

For Windows 2000:
c:\program files\observer\drivers\vmoni2000

For 32-bit XP, 2003 and Vista:
c:\program files\observer

For 64-bit XP, 2003 and Vista:
c:\program files (x86)\observer

You should now be able to select an adapter when starting Observer.

Note: VMONI Protocol Analyzer is the Version 9+ driver, VMONI1 Protocol Analyzer and VMONI2 Protocol Analyzer are Version 8 and can be uninstalled and deleted if using V9.
