Title: Upgrading Observer and Probes to a new major version release

Upgrading Observer to a new major version Release:

1. Ensure you are in possession of your version 12 Observer, Expert Probe, and/or Advanced Probe licenses.
2. Download Observer/Probe setup application from the following web site: http://www.networkinstruments.com/downloads/observer_form.html
3. Close Observer and run the application ObserverSetup.exe
4. Upon completion, reboot the computer system.
5. After reboot, start Observer and choose Time Limited Function mode.
6. Proceed to Help-> License Observer and enter the v12 Observer license #.
7. Close and Reopen Observer

Upgrading v11 Remote Probes attached to a newly upgraded v12 Observer:

1. Upon Redirection of a v11 Probe instance, the following dialog may appear:

2. Right-Click the associated instance and choose ‘Probe or Device Properties’:

3.The following dialog box will appear, choose OK:

4. Choose the Autoupgrade tab, choose the ‘Autoupgrade Probe for major version release’ checkbox, and press the ‘Enter Licensing Information’ button:

5. Choose the 1st  option and enter licensing information for Advanced Single Probe / Advanced Multi-Probe, OR choose the 2nd option for Expert Probe or GigaStor Expert Probe:

6. Press OK and OK to close the Licensing dialogs.  If ‘Error in License number’ is encountered, verify you have typed information correctly, refer to your v12 licensing document, or call 1-800-526-7919 for technical support to verify or obtain correct licensing information.

7. After successfully closing the dialogs, the log window (View-> Log Window) should show entries similar to the following:

Give the Remote Probe sufficient time to perform the upgrade of the software and to reboot the probe computer.  If the probe does not reconnect to your Observer software in a reasonable amount of time (< 10 minutes), then you may need to check the probe computer to ensure it is not displaying a Window’s system message dialog concerning rebooting of the probe computer.
