Document Number: RSUP2000 Notes on the 3COM SuperStack II 1100 and 3300 Switch´s mini-RMON Probe It is recommended that you update the switch’s firmware to at least version 2.10 prior to using the internal mini-RMON probe. Note that internal RMON Probe reports that it is ”RMON1” but is not a complete implementation of RMON1. Therefore a number of modes are not available. With the 2.10 firmware update (for the switch), 3COM added the history group. This addition allows Observer to report all metrics second by second (as opposed to average readings based on the Probe report period for switches that do not support the history group). This second by second reporting is available regardless of the RMON Extensions reporting period. If you are using a firmware less than 2.10, the switch does not support the history group and all metrics are reported as averages based on the Observer Probe’s statistics report period (found in Observer’s ”Settings”, ”Probe Options”, ”Statistics report (refresh) period” item). Different RMON Modes are available depending on the interface chosen (Switch interfaces can be selected in Observer’s ”Settings”, ”Probe Options” dialog under the “Interfaces” tab). For any of the single port interfaces: For the “RMON VLAN1” Interface: One last note: The 3COM switches do not populate the matrix table with thier own (MAC) address correctly. This results in all traffic being reported from the switches internal hardware address to be 0 in Pair Statistics Mode (other addresses are reported correctly). |
