Title: Can't Print using "File" -> "Print" under Windows XP

XP introduced a new permission restriction for printing. Users who have limited logins do not have write privileges to the spool directory. If this is the case, the following procedure will allow users to print:

1) Logon to the system in question as administrator.

2) Browse to the windows\system32 directory.

3) Right click on the SPOOL directory and left click on Properties.

4) In Properties dialog and remove the Read Only attributes.

5) Click on the Security Tab.

6) Click on the ADD button.

7) On the SELECT USERS, COMPUTERS or GROUPS window click on the ADVANCED button.

You may at this point have to login again. Use the same Administrator User ID and Password.

8) On the SELECT USERS, COMPUTERS or GROUPS window, click on the FIND NOW button.

You will be presented with a list of Users, Computers and Groups. Select the User you wish to give access to this directory to, or you can select the option for the group Everyone. This gives Everyone who has a logon account access. Then click OK.

9) Locate the user, computer or group that you just added. Then click the checkmark box for FULL CONTROL. This will give them full control to write to this directory once they have logged in.
